Children and Divorce

Fascinating article by Susan Gregory Thomas in WSJ on divorce. Divorce peaked in 1980 and is currently at a 35 year low. Per US Census data released in May, 77% of couples who married since 1990 have reached their 10 year anniversaries.

Thomas describes how many couples married since 1990 had parents who divorced and the devastating impact on the kids. Her generation (GenX 1965-1980) didn’t want their kids to suffer the same. Unfortunately deeper in the article she tells us she did get divorced. But, another trend of the Gen Xers, she and her x are on good terms and are working well together to parent their children. Though they didn’t make it in marriage, they still want to make it as parents.
