If you have your own business, you are a leader. If you work with others, you are a leader. If you have a family, you are a leader.
You have a following, whether you know it our not. You have clients or customers who pay attention to how you interact with them. You have a spouse and children who pay attention to how you love them. You have colleagues who pay attention to how you treat them. True, everyone is wrapped up in their own world, but they do see and listen, even if you don’t think so. I don’t say this in an Orwellian – big brother is watching way, but in a you are a leader way.
Know that your life counts and that you have influence. You don’t have to be Glenn Beck and fill Cowboy Stadium to have influence. Your influence is real, whether you see it or not – and you probably won’t see it.
. . . and make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: you should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12
