Friday’s Random Thoughts #4

Estate planning can’t solve bad family relationships any more than having a baby solves a bad marriage.

Estate planning can’t make family members love each other but it could prevent them from destroying each other.

Sometimes – make that, most of the time – waiting is the wisest course of action.

However . . .

You might be waiting for things to settle down. For the kids to be old enough, for work to calm down, for the economy to recover, for the weather to cooperate, for your bad back to let up just a little…

The thing is, people who make a difference never wait for just the right time. They know that it will never arrive.

Instead, they make their ruckus when they are short of sleep, out of money, hungry, in the middle of a domestic mess and during a blizzard. Whenever.

As long as whenever is now.

Career advise: Stay out of debt, spend less than you make and save the rest. Then, no matter what you choose to do, you will have the freedom to make good decisions and enjoy your life.

Advice to new small business owners: Don’t get a loan and don’t go into debt. Easy money leads to sloppy decision making. If you need a loan to expand and grow fast, don’t expand and grow fast. The tortoise wins the race.

Best advise about life – from the The Westminster Shorter Catechism 1647:

What is the chief end of man? Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him for ever.
